My dog chews her feet until they bleed?
I’m going to take her to the vet, but as we’re heading into the weekend here I was wondering if anyone has any ideas as to why she does this? She seems to chew her pads until a strip of skin comes off, leaving the area raw. At fiirst we thought she had cut her feet while we were out walking or something, but then it happened again.
My questions then, are this – Why? How do I prevent it?
and,
Should I disinfect/bandage the wound?
It could be allergies. My sister has a dog with an allergy to grass of all things. I would clean it with soap and water, but I would be hesitant to put anything like neosporin on it since she would likely lick it off. She would also remove any dressing you tried to put on. The above is unless you opt to get an e-collar (lampshade) until you get her to the vet.
