What do these bandages do?
What is the difference between “Topper” Dressing Sponges, ABD Pads, Trauma Pads, and Gauze Pads?
Also, can an Ace self-adhering bandage roll replace an Ace elastic roll for making a splint?
A topper usually is a cotton filled guaze that goes on top of a packing dressing. ABD pads have a larger amount of cotton type filler to absorb a lot of drainage for a larger, fresher wound. Trauma pads are meant to absorb lots of drainage from very fresh, non surgical wounds. Guaze pads are thinner, less absorbant and meant for smaller wounds, or wounds that have minimal drainage.
I’m old fashioned. I like the regualr ACE elastic roll for splints. I have never used the self adhering bandage roll for splint but use them to secure gauze or secure an IV board.
