Will a strained ankle tendon heal by itself and how can I help it heal quicker?
I think I have strained one of the tendons in my ankle. It hurts to go on tippy toes and it hurts to flex it. It’s just my right ankle. I can’t remember doing anything traumatic, i.e. I haven’t tripped or fallen into any pothole recently, and I’m not currently playing a sport or doing anything strenuous physically. It may sound strange, but I think I hurt it by sitting in a strange cross-legged style for too long. Sometimes when I sit cross-legged I put my right leg on top of my left and it stretches this tendon, but it’s never hurt before. However, that’s the only thing I can think of. I’m wondering if there are things I can do at home to help it heal faster. It is painful to walk. Will icing it and keeping it elevated help? Would an ace bandage help? What else can I do besides going to the doctor (I don’t have the money to see a doctor right now)? Thank you.
Yes, it is swollen.
If you experience swellling, elevate it. Ice it for 20 minutes, 3-5 times a day, and elevate your leg when you do that. Additionally, take an anti-inflammatory medicine such as Motrin a couple times a day, and that will help the swelling too. If there is no swelling, I don’t know how much good the ice will do, but as a general rule, I’d advise not to do anything too strenuous… wear comfy shoes if you have to walk a long distance and take it easy.
