Doctor may use a curette have damaged my baby's ear?
Dr. observed accumulation of wax in my 11 month old ear and now my son diagnosed with what he thought was an ear infection. He used a device similar to a curette, a long, thin instrument. He used my son's ear to remove wax and my son cried for 5 minutes in the pain of it. Is it possible that this instrument could have punctured eardrum my son's dr. trying to remove wax or screaming pain is a normal reaction to a baby when the wax is removed?
If your baby does not cry or pull the ear now is probably fine. It's scary that a child is unknown and uncomfortable for them. If your child has an ear infection could be that it was painful due to inflammation and accumulation of wax. Keep an eye on the ear to ensure that it does not become bright red or pus or blood oozing from it. I wash inside ear with a hot towel to reduce the buildup in the future. Good luck … my daughter used to have the same problem that is so hard to look bad!
